Coffee.. for more than just your mug!

I don’t know what it is, but I love using items from my fridge on my skin. Maybe it is because I like to know exactly what is going on to my skin, or because I see less stuff being tossed into the garbage can.. either way, more often than not you can open our fridge and find tiny jars or containers of my secret potions stashed in their own little area. (We decided on giving them their own area after we had a mishap with someone thinking my avocado face mask was gaucamole!!..however, the recipe is not far off so it could have been MUCH worse!)

At this time of year I am especially obsessed with them because this cold weather just dries you out so much! If you make your own coffee in the morning, than this first one is for you! I love to wake up to a cup of coffee, but instead of throwing out the coffee grounds, I pitch them into a tupperware container.. add a few more ingredients, and take them to the shower with me! This scrub can be messy so it’s best to do it while standing in the bath tub, before you turn the shower on.. that way you can get messy, and just rinse it all away and continue on with your shower! Make sure that you are washing this down your drain with LOTS of hot water, because while I have not personally experienced this, I have heard of some people having drain issues due to the coconut oil hardening once it cools in the pipes.

*Note: It does work best with coffee grounds that have not already been brewed (because they still have caffeine left in them), but if you are like me there are times you literally need to stretch every single dollar you have, then brewed grounds will work well too. If you choose to use previously brewed coffee grounds, make sure that you store them in your freezer so they don’t get moldy!

This scrub is so good for so many reasons. It helps to get your circulation flowing, is high in antioxidants, and will smooth and moisturize your skin. …And these are only a few of the benefits you will see from this scrub! They also say (whoever THEY are?!) that the caffeine in the coffee can actually help with cellulite.. and who in their right mind doesn’t want some extra help with that?! Am I right?!.. Plus, I always love the smell of coffee and sugar in the morning! Is there a better way to wake up by then smothering yourself in caffeine and sugar?!.. Nope.. didn’t think so!

I hope you enjoy this scrub as much as I do! Let me know how it goes! I would love to hear how you are all making out scrubbing away the winter blues!

Coffee & Brown Sugar Body Scrub:
1 Cup – Coconut oil (organic!)
1 Cup – Coffee grounds (you can use more or less depending on how “scrubby” you prefer!)
1/2 Cup – Brown sugar (you can also use raw sugar)

That’s it! That’s all! 3 easy ingredients for soft, smooth skin!
